Visit to Ukraine: Reiche strengthens energy partnership and security cooperation
Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche travelled to Ukraine with an economic delegation for several days to further expand cooperation in the energy sector and the defence industry. The discussions focused on securing and rebuilding Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which has been severely damaged by increased Russian attacks and urgently needs support for the cold season.
Germany is contributing to this effort within the framework of the German-Ukrainian energy partnership and is providing considerable funds for the Ukraine Energy Assistance Fund. The minister announced that both technical and financial support would be expanded, for example through mobile heating systems, transformers and investments in reconstruction.
At the same time, cooperation in the defence industry is to be intensified in order to bring Ukrainian and German companies closer together and to understand security policy as part of economic development. Reiche expressed her support for Ukraine's resilience and emphasised the importance of long-term partnerships for the stability and modernisation of the country.
