Mexico City and Berlin: mutual recognition for their photovoltaic energy programs
Mexico City and Berlin have expressed mutual appreciation for their successful photovoltaic programmes and intend to establish closer synergies for further consolidation in the future. Representatives from both cities exchanged experiences regarding their solar programmes, with particular emphasis on the potential for solar energy on market roofs and in industrial areas. The technical exchange took place within the framework of the bilateral energy partnership and was supported by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Berlin Energy Agency.
Mexico City is aiming for a 10% reduction in emissions by 2024 and is focusing on solar energy in various areas. Berlin is pursuing climate neutrality by 2045 and aims to achieve around 4,000 MW of solar power capacity by 2050. Both cities see increased cooperation as an important step in advancing the energy transition locally and globally.
