Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2024

The global energy transition is one of the most pressing challenges of our age. At the same time, it holds great potential for a sustainable future with increasing global prosperity. At COP28, the global community decided to significantly accelerate the energy transition  in order to keep the 1.5°C target within reach. All countries should contribute to tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030, as well as the global average annual rate of energy efficiency improvement. In Dubai, the world also committed to a transition away from fossil fuels and underlined the need to accelerate action in this critical decade. But ambitious energy transition targets are only as good as their implementation. The German Government wants to shape and accelerate this in a spirit of international cooperation. To this end, the Federal Foreign Office and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action are jointly hosting the 10th Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD).

With around 50 international delegations and more than 2,000 participants from the business, science and civil society from over 130 countries, as well as more than 17,000 virtual participants in 2023, the BETD is one of the most important international conferences on the global energy transition. In 2024, the BETD will once again be a key platform for international decision-makers to discuss concrete actions and cooperation to transform our energy systems so that we can accelerate the expansion of renewable energy and realise the full potential of a global energy transition, also in terms of sustainable growth, socially just transformation, jobs and energy security.
